FENIX – European Federated Network of Information eXchange in LogistiX – completed

FENIX will develop the first European federated architecture for data exchange serving the European logistics community of shippers, logistics service providers, mobility infrastructure providers, cities and authorities to provide interoperability between individual, existing and future platforms.

FENIX’s mission is to support the development, validation and deployment of digital information systems along all TEN-T corridors. The end product of the project will be a federated information system that will serve European shippers, logistics service providers, mobility infrastructure providers, cities and authorities by providing interoperability between existing and future platforms. Among other things, this should promote horizontal cooperation and enable optimized routing and dynamic re-routing of goods. Ultimately, it should be possible to generate and evaluate real-time data streams.

Goals

  • Overcoming today’s fragmentation and lack of connectivity around ICT-based logistics decision-making systems
  • Connect the different digital platforms and harmonize the services they offer
  • Ensuring interoperability and common protocols to support data sharing services
  • Facilitate horizontal collaboration within the LSC and act as a technology-neutral open solution of data exchange in the form of digital corridor information systems for the European logistics community

Partner

The project partners include 43 beneficiaries, 2 Member States and 23 implementing bodies supporting the development, validation and deployment of the digital information systems along the EU core transport network.

Duration

04/01/2019 – 03/31/2023

The idea of FENIX stems from the work and recommendations of the European Commission’s Digital Transport and Logistic Forum (DTLF) to create a viable and valid federative network of platforms as enablers for business-to-government (B2A) and business-to-business data exchange (B2B) to create and share by transport and logistics companies.

FENIX is a four-year project of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) fund, which aims to support the development, validation and deployment of digital information systems along the EU core transport network. The Connecting Europe Facility is a key EU funding instrument to boost growth, jobs and competitiveness through infrastructure investments at European level.
